On Tuesday, June 9, the Williamson County Commissioners Court accepted the resignation of Williamson County Tax Assessor-Collector Larry Gaddes, who served as the Tax Assessor-Collector since January 2017. He is leaving to accept a position as deputy executive director of the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles.
“I am honored for the opportunity to serve the citizens of Williamson County, immensely proud of the work of our office and deeply grateful to have served with such an amazing staff,β said Gaddes.
The Commissioners Court will appoint a person to fill the position until the next General Election. The office will be on the Nov. 2026 ballot for voters to elect a new Williamson County Tax Assessor-Collector to fulfill the office for the unexpired term ending on Dec. 31, 2028. Anyone interested in being considered for the appointment must send a resume and qualifications toΒ ctyjudge@wilcotx.gov. The Commissioners Court will review candidates and set up interviews.
Eligibility requirements to be appointed to a public elective office are set out in the Texas Election Code. These requirements include that an individual must:
- Be a United States citizen;
- Be 18 years of age or older;
- Reside in Texas for 12 months prior to the appointment;
- Reside in Williamson County for six months prior to the appointment;
- Be registered to vote in Williamson County;
- Have not been determined by a court to be totally or partially mentally incapacitated without the right to vote; and
- Have not been convicted of a felony from which the individual has not been pardoned.
Before taking office, the person appointed to the Tax Assessor-Collector position must be able to:
- Execute a bond payable to the Governor in the amount of $100,000;
- Execute a bond payable to the Commissioners Court in the amount equal of $100,000; and
- Take the oath of Office and make a Statement of Officer.
