The City of Georgetown has officially opened a new section of the Northwest Boulevard project!
Starting Friday, August 27, traffic can now cross the bridge that spans I-35 and connects with Austin Avenue on the east side. On the west side, the project connects to Rivery Boulevard via a traffic circle.
āIām most excited about there being another east west connection point and for there to be some relief of the traffic off of Williams Drive,ā Mayor Josh Schroeder told Hello Georgetown. āI drove here this morning on Williams Drive, sat through several lights, and so I was very excited to get here and open this up so we have one more way to get across the interstate in Georgetown, Texas.ā
The new bridge fulfills a key mobility goal for Georgetown, Mayor Schroeder said at the ribbon cutting, and the bridge is the first new east-west connection over I-35 in decades.
Georgetown voters approved the Northwest Boulevard project in the 2015 transportation bond election.
