A Georgetown band will be performing at SXSW for the second year in a row on Friday, March 17.
“We were extremely grateful to be picked for SXSW again,” Caleigh Oceguera, Lead Vocals/Guitar for the band Tough on Fridays, told Hello Georgetown. “Weβre playing alongside some amazing and extremely talented artists, so we feel honored.”
The band, comprised of Caleigh Oceguera on lead vocals and guitar, and Carly Fairchild on lead vocals and bass, made their first SXSW debut in 2022 and in the year that has followed, they’ve marked some major milestones.
“At the time of the last SXSX, Tough On Fridays had only released the cover song, “Covet” by the UK band Basement from their newly recorded material from Studios At Fischer in Canyon Lake, TX,” Eric Nielsen, Manager for the band, told Hello Georgetown. “After that show, the band released a series of singles and EP’s which culminated in the release of the band’s first album for Archangel Records,(Sydney, AU), “The Encore You Didn’t Ask For” November, 2022. That album with songs like “Overboard!” and “Sink Of Swim” have helped it to receive critical success for the
band on a global scale in a number of publications. We travelled to Colorado in 2022 and played our first show in Colorado Springs. And among other venues, we played Austin’s Pecan Street Festival last September, the iconic Stubb’s BBQ in February and are selected to participate in the prestigious Sonic Guild for a chance to receive a grant and play ACL Live in December!”
Caleigh also said the band has worked on continuing to tweak and adjust their music, and they can’t wait to perform at the festival again.
“Since the last SXSW we have tightened up as a band tremendously and have prioritized our harmonies as well,” she said. “Fans can not only get an amazing show, but also some amazing merch! Our set list will consist of our entire new album plus some oldies!”
The show is a SXSW show, but that shouldn’t deter local fans who haven’t gotten wristbands to the festival. The Tough on Fridays performance is open to the public and will be held at the Low Down Lounge, located at 1412 E. 6th St. in Austin at 7 PM. Though the band has reached regional, national and international fame, they still remember the place that started it all for them.
“Georgetown will always be our roots,” Caleigh said. “We hope to see everyone out there on Friday. It will be a blast!”
