If you drive Williams Drive regularly, mark your calendar: crews break ground this week on the next phase of the road’s long-awaited makeover. Starting Tuesday, work begins on a new raised median between Serenada and Lakeway, meaning some familiar left turns are about to disappear for a while.
Here’s what the City wants you to know before the cones go up.
Construction starts Sept. 16 on Williams Drive Enhancement Project
The City of Georgetown is continuing improvements along Williams Drive between Austin Avenue and Jim Hogg Road to enhance safety, reduce congestion, and improve traffic flow.
The Williams Drive Enhancement Project is being constructed in phases, with median construction beginning this month. This phase of the project includes building a raised center median, adding street lighting and landscaping, and upgrading intersections and traffic signals from Serenada Drive to Lakeway Drive. Construction is anticipated to be complete in late 2027, weather, field conditions, and work progress permitting.
Starting Sept. 16, crews will begin building a new raised median on Williams Drive between Serenada Drive and Lakeway Drive as part of the City’s ongoing effort to improve safety and traffic flow. Once construction begins, the existing center turn lane will be removed, and drivers will no longer be able to make left turns across the roadway in this section. Access to neighborhoods and businesses will remain available, though some traffic movements and access points will change.
