Georgetown ISD has officially named the leaders who will open its next two schools — Elementary No. 12 and Middle School No. 5 — both scheduled to welcome students in the 2026–27 school year. The campuses, located just south of East View High School, are part of the district’s ongoing expansion on the east side funded by the 2024 bond.
Dr. Emily Fraser, current principal of McCoy Elementary, has been selected to lead Elementary School No. 12. She will begin transitioning into the role in January. Fraser brings 17 years of experience in GISD, serving as a teacher, special education resource and inclusion teacher, ARD facilitator, and assistant principal at both Carver Elementary and Forbes Middle School.
During her tenure at McCoy, she implemented innovative professional learning systems for staff, integrated district-wide programs at the campus level, and guided strategic instructional initiatives. Fraser holds a doctorate in educational leadership from the University of Mary Hardin–Baylor, a master’s in education and a bachelor’s degree in general studies from Schreiner University. She and her husband Travis have two GISD students: Johnny, a junior at East View High School, and Jaxon, a fifth grader at McCoy.
A Georgetown High School alumna with deep roots in the district, Fraser shared her excitement about the opportunity to launch a brand-new elementary campus, calling the experience an honor and emphasizing the district’s strong community.
For Middle School No. 5, the district has selected Michael Coyle, who currently serves as associate principal at Northeast Early College High School in Austin ISD. Coyle will also transition into his new role in January. With 25 years of experience, he has served as a teacher, instructional coach, assistant principal, and principal.
Coyle brings a record of measurable gains at his current campus, where he helped improve TEA accountability scores for three consecutive years, reduced chronic absenteeism by 12 percent, and introduced systems to strengthen school culture, climate, and academics. He was named the 2021 Austin ISD Assistant Principal of the Year and was a finalist for Principal of the Year in 2025. Coyle earned his master’s degree in educational leadership from Lamar University and a bachelor’s degree in social sciences from Montclair State University.
In their new roles, both Fraser and Coyle will oversee campus startup operations, including staffing, systems development, and aligning each school with GISD’s mission, vision, and Strategic Direction. Superintendent Dr. Devin Padavil emphasized the impact of strong campus leadership and shared his confidence in both principals as they prepare to open the district’s newest schools.
Construction of Elementary No. 12 and Middle School No. 5 is underway using funds from the 2024 bond. Build-out plans show the two campuses supporting a combined 1,850 students at full capacity. More information about the bond is available on the district’s website.
