The Georgetown Palace Theatre has announced a major transition for its longtime Playhouse venue on Rock Street, confirming that the Playhouse will officially close at the end of 2025. The final production at the current location will be Dashing Through the Snow.
According to the Theatreโs release, the decision is a strategic move intended to support long-term growth and sustainability for the organization. The Palace emphasized that this shift will allow leadership to begin an immediate search for a new, permanent home for the Playhouse, one that maintains the intimate theatre experience audiences love while creating room for future expansion.
The Playhouse, located at 216 W. Eighth St., has hosted countless performances over the years. The Theatre expressed gratitude for the supporters, volunteers, artists, and patrons who helped shape the venueโs legacy.
For the next few seasons, Playhouse productions will temporarily relocate to the Doug Smith Performance Center on 2nd Street, where they will operate alongside the Palaceโs education program. The Theatre expects minimal interruption for education families and plans to implement improvements to support a smooth transition.
The Palace reiterated its commitment to patrons, students, volunteers, and the broader community, noting that updates on the search for a new facility will be shared as progress continues.
