CAMPO and TxDOT Host Open House for FM 973 Widening Project in Taylor

AUSTIN, TEXAS, August 2025 – The Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO) and the Texas Department  of Transportation (TxDOT) are proposing to widen FM 973 from Samsung Highway to US 79 in Taylor to address rapid  growth in the area.  

CAMPO and TxDOT will host a public open house with in-person and virtual options to provide an opportunity for the  public to learn about the project, ask questions, and provide input on proposed improvements.  

Proposed improvements to FM 973 between Samsung Highway and US 79 include widening the existing two- to three lane facility to a proposed six-lane boulevard section within existing right of way. 

In-Person Open House 

When: 4-7 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 21, 2025  

Where: Dickey-Givens Community Center  

1015 E. MLK Jr. Blvd.,  

Taylor, TX 76574  

Format: Open house style meeting; Attendees may come  and go at their convenience.  

Virtual Open House 

When: 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, 2025 – Monday, Sept.  22, 2025

Format: Self-guided virtual meeting room with audio  and visual components available for viewing online any  time during the time frame listed above.
