March 16, 2022 – Sylvan Learning is closer to opening up in Georgetown!
“We have narrowed it down to two general locations,” Jong Kim, owner of Sylvan Learning Georgetown, told Hello Georgetown. “We are going to continue driving around Georgetown to see if there are any other locations that could be good places, but for now, I have two places in mind.”
While the second location is still in the works, Kim said some services can be accessed virtually or by traveling to the sister location.
“We can deliver tutoring and most of the services virtually,” Kim said. “There are a few things that we just cannot do virtually, but for the most part we’ll be able to deliver assistance…We still have a sister center in Lakeway if the customer is willing to come down for assessments or certain things, they’re more than welcome to come down to the Lakeway Center.”
Kim said he hopes to narrow down a final Georgetown location by end of April.
January 11, 2022 – Sylvan Learning Center is coming to Georgetown!
Owned and operated by Jong Kim, Center Director and Franchise Owner, the business will be focused on providing academic assistance to students of all ages!
“Sylvan doesn’t just offer tutoring in one or two subjects, Sylvan becomes like educational partners to parents and students, and offers more comprehensive programs to help students who become more academically successful and then become well-rounded students,” Kim said.
Kim told Hello Georgetown he had always dreamed of starting a business and also wanted to make sure whatever he started also had a positive impact on the community.
“When I was evaluating what kind of business I want to start, I wanted it to be meaningful,” Kim said. “Something that can make positive change and impact to the community.”
He found those goals and that dream fulfilled in Sylvan Learning Center which offers a variety of assistance in academic areas including:
- Reading
- Writing
- Math
- Science
- STEM
- Coding
- Robotics
- Study Skills
- Homework Help
- College Test Prep
Each student receives personalized assistance based on their specific needs and goals, Kim said. Before work on academics begins, students undergo an evaluation to help Sylvan Learning Center provide the best tutoring and teaching experience for each individual.
“There is no one size fits all,” Kim said. “So, it’s a very tailored experience for every student.”
As for the location, Kim said there isn’t one set yet, and he would like Georgetown residents to give him input on what location would serve them best.
“Where would you like me to put Sylvan Learning Center,” Kim asked. “What location would you guys prefer? What is the best location for people to get access to this sort of thing. I’ll put my center where it’s needed most.”
