A new creamery with deep cultural and local roots is now open in Georgetown. La Vaquerita Creamery is owned by Yozue De La Torre, a Georgetown native whose journey comes full circle with the opening of her first dessert shop in the city where she grew up.
De La Torre was raised in Georgetown, but her palate was shaped by spending time every year in Michoacán, Mexico. There, ice cream is not just dessert. It is a tradition made from scratch using real, seasonal fresh ingredients and shared as part of everyday life. Those experiences stayed with her and became the foundation for La Vaquerita Creamery.
De La Torre grew up in Georgetown and spent time every year in Michoacán, Mexico, where ice cream is traditionally made from scratch using real, seasonal ingredients. That philosophy drives everything at La Vaquerita Creamery. Ice cream bases, paletas, milkshakes, and desserts are all made fresh in house, with an emphasis on quality ingredients rather than pre made shortcuts.
I wanted a place where no one feels excluded, where culture, care, and quality come together, and where I can give back to the community that has supported my journey every step of the way. – Yozue De La Torre
Before opening the creamery, De La Torre owned a successful cleaning business. As she planned her next chapter, she wanted to create a place where families could enjoy treats together without compromise. Her husband lives with Type 2 diabetes, and too often dessert shops offered limited or no options for him. That experience shaped a menu intentionally built to be more inclusive.
La Vaquerita Creamery offers gluten free, sugar free, and dairy free options alongside traditional favorites, making it an easy go to for customers looking for better for you choices year round. In addition to fresh made ice cream, the shop serves coffee and a menu of Mexican savory snacks called Vaquerita Street Snacks. Offerings include esquites with Hot Cheetos, esquites con Maruchan, milkshakes, and classic paletas made with fresh fruit.
The shop is located at 603 W University Avenue, Suite 126, Georgetown, Texas 78626. On weekends, customers can enjoy micheladas. Beginning in March, La Vaquerita Creamery will also take orders for custom ice cream cakes made in house.
For De La Torre, La Vaquerita Creamery represents a full circle moment. It blends her Georgetown upbringing, her Michoacán heritage, and her commitment to serving fresh, flavorful options the community can enjoy any time of year.
