Meet This Week’s Adoptable Pets

Behind every adoption story is a team that shows up day after day for animals who can’t advocate for themselves. This week, we want to take a moment to celebrate the staff and volunteers at the Williamson County shelter, whose compassion and dedication give abandoned pets a second chance at finding love. Their tireless work, from feeding and caring for these animals to matching them with the right families, doesn’t always get the recognition it deserves, but it makes all the difference.

Here’s the shelter introduces this week’s two pets of the week:

Looking for a dog with Olympic-level fetch skills and the manners of a gentleman? Meet Behr, our gorgeous chocolate brown hunk who has turned playing fetch into an art form. Not only is he lightning-fast and graceful as he chases down his favorite ball, but he’s also incredibly polite about it—placing the ball gently at your feet and giving you the most endearing look that clearly says, “Please, kind human, just one more throw?” Behr’s got brains to go with all that charm. He’s house-trained, food-motivated, and if you’ve got a treat handy, you’ll have his full attention. On hot days, he’ll treat himself to a little splash through the pool mid-fetch, showing off his silly, joyful side.

This pet has an Adoption Angel, this means his adoption fee has been covered by a generous donation!

Ciao and purrs! I’m Italia, and now that I’ve finished raising my precious kittens, it’s finally my turn to be spoiled! I’m a sweet girl with a one-of-a-kind coat that’s just as beautiful as my purr-sonality. My dream home includes fun toys to chase, a cozy bed for my daily catnaps, and loving paw-rents who will shower me with affection (and maybe a few tasty treats, too!). I’ve been the best mama I could be, and now I’m ready to trade motherhood for a lifetime of purrs, cuddles, and happily-ever-after.

Press release by Optimum Internet Fiber Cut Near I-35 and Northwest Blvd Leaves Some Georgetown Homes Without Internet Some Georgetown residents woke ...

Press release by Optimum Internet

Fiber Cut Near I-35 and Northwest Blvd Leaves Some Georgetown Homes Without Internet

Some Georgetown residents woke up this morning to find their internet service down after Optimum’s fiber-optic network was deliberately damaged near I-35 and Northwest Blvd. The company says the damage happened early this morning and crews are on site working to restore service. A police report has been filed.

Here’s the strange part: the cut appears to be tied to copper theft, even though Optimum’s fiber network doesn’t contain any copper. Fiber optic cable has no resale value once it’s been cut, which means whoever did this walked away with nothing but left a mess behind, exposed wires and unstable equipment that pose a real safety risk to anyone who comes across them.

Repairing the damage isn’t quick or simple. Each individual strand has to be spliced back together inside a protective enclosure, and a single splice can mean dozens of precise connections about the width of a human hair. That’s part of why restoration takes time even after crews arrive on scene.

Optimum issued the following statement: “We sincerely apologize to our customers who are experiencing an internet service disruption. Our teams responded immediately and are currently working to restore service after our network was deliberately damaged by criminal activity. We appreciate our customers’ patience and urge the community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to local authorities.”

Beyond the inconvenience of lost internet, incidents like this can disrupt 911 emergency calling, which is why Optimum and local authorities are asking residents to keep an eye out. If you notice unmarked vehicles or individuals working near infrastructure who can’t provide official identification, or anyone who just seems out of place near utility equipment, it’s worth reporting to local authorities.

Residents can also report suspicious activity directly to Optimum, who will loop in their Security Operations team. That can be done through 24/7 chat support at Optimum.com or through the My Optimum app.

Optimum has not yet provided an estimated time for full service restoration.

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS — Amazon appears to be following through on a warehouse project in Georgetown that was first rumored more than four years ago and never materialized, until now.

According to a July 6 filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR), Amazon.com Services LLC intends to break ground on August 24, 2026, on a 248,687-square-foot sorting warehouse at 104 Wittera Way, with completion targeted for July 30, 2027.

The site sits within Gateway35, one of two large industrial parks under development in Georgetown by Albuquerque-based Titan Development Ltd.

The filing describes the project as an SSD (Sub Same Day) facility, meaning it will specialize in getting packages to customers in less than a day. The estimated $48,000,000 project includes:

A robotics sorting and storage area

Specialty storage

Cold storage

Incidental office and support space

The facility is privately funded on private land, per the filing.

This isn’t Amazon’s first attempt at building here. Back in 2021, the Austin Business Journal reported that Amazon was eyeing a large warehouse project at this same site. Entities tied to the company went on to purchase the 56-acre parcel, now valued at roughly $2.5 million, later that year. But the project stalled, and nothing broke ground.

The new TDLR filing suggests those long-dormant plans are finally active again.

If completed, the Georgetown facility would become Amazon’s fourth warehouse in the greater Austin area, joining two existing facilities in Round Rock and a third in Pflugerville.

A company spokesperson offered the following statement:

“Our team is in the early stages of bringing a new operations facility to Georgetown, one that would provide local customers with faster delivery of everyday essentials while creating new jobs in the community. We’re working with local officials on this project and look forward to sharing more details as plans develop.”

Amazon has not yet released specific job-creation numbers for the facility.

This story is based on a construction permit filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, not a formal announcement from Amazon. Hello Georgetown will continue to follow this project as it develops.

The City changed the dates of its annual system maintenance in 2026 to better coordinate with neighboring utilities and to avoid confusion among our customers. When the City of Georgetown initially planned to perform this chlorine rinse, other cities were not planning to do this maintenance this summer. The cities of Round Rock, Leander, Cedar Park, and Liberty Hill have subsequently scheduled their rinses for the same time period (Aug. 3-Sept. 3). Coordinating the rinse ensures continued interoperability between the utilities during the maintenance window.

The Georgetown Water Utility will perform system maintenance beginning Monday, Aug. 3, through Thursday, Sept. 3, 2026. During this systemwide maintenance, Georgetown water customers may notice chlorine odors and a green or brown tint to the water for brief periods of time. Customers could notice these changes starting Monday or Tuesday, Aug. 3 or 4.

Concentrations maintained during the conversion will be well within state and federal drinking water standards. Water is safe to drink for people, pets, and plants.

Important advisory for specific groups:

Dialysis patients and centers: Special precautions are advised for dialysis patients and centers. Water must be properly treated to remove all chemical disinfectants, including chlorine and chloramine, before it is used in dialysis machines. However, the water remains safe for consumption by dialysis patients.

Fish tanks and aquariums: The water will not be safe for use in fish tanks and aquariums during the conversion period due to the temporary change in disinfection treatment.

Pool owners: Pool owners must maintain the same chlorine level in water treated with either free chlorine or chloramines to prevent algae and bacterial growth. Pool supply stores can provide pool owners with more information.

Purpose of the maintenance

The water system typically uses chloramines, which contain chlorine and ammonia, for disinfection due to their long-term benefits. However, periodic maintenance, such as the Free Chlorine Rinse, removes ammonia from the treatment process and disinfects the water with only chlorine, which is more effective than chloramine at overall disinfection.

Water authorities nationwide conduct annual disinfectant changes ahead of warmer seasons to reset the system’s disinfection capabilities and free pipes of sediment buildup. Free Chlorine Rinse is a regular system maintenance practice recommended by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.

Flushing and water pressure

During the Free Chlorine Rinse period from Aug. 3-Sept. 3, hydrants will be flushed to help maintain clear water for customers and to ensure the free chlorine reaches the entire water system. The process will be repeated when converting the water system back to chloramine. Flushing should significantly subside after the process is complete. When flushing hydrants, the water utility will divert water onto lawns and grassy areas to reuse while also mitigating the pressure to avoid damage.

Most customers will not see a drop in water pressure. If a change in pressure does occur, it is usually momentary. If low pressure persists longer than an hour, report it to the Customer Care team at customercare@georgetowntexas.gov.

For details on the planned Free Chlorine Rinse, see georgetowntexas.gov/water_maintenance.

For questions about this system maintenance, email Customer Care at customercare@georgetowntexas.gov.

After a nationwide recruitment search conducted by Affion Public, City Manager David Morgan has appointed Jack Daly as assistant city manager effective June 22.

“Laurie Brewer hired me for my first role with the City of Georgetown more than 13 years ago, so it is especially meaningful to step into this position following her retirement,” Daly said. “I’m grateful for the strong foundation Laurie helped build and look forward to continuing the important work of preparing Georgetown for the future while fostering the qualities that make this community so special.”

Daly joined the City of Georgetown in March 2013 and has spearheaded several key initiatives and programs, including debris pickup during the 2023 winter storm, the merger between the Georgetown Animal Shelter and the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter, and the renovation of the City’s transfer station.

Daly’s leadership roles at the City include community services director, overseeing the City’s animal services, code compliance, emergency management, stormwater, and environmental services departments, assistant public works director, and chief business officer in the Electric Utility. He holds a master’s degree in public administration from the University of North Texas and a Bachelor of Arts degree in government and history from The University of Texas at Austin.

As assistant city manager, Daly will oversee several City departments, including Water, Public Works, Parks and Recreation, and the Public Library.

“Jack Daly has a proven track record as a leader in the City organization and is an excellent problem solver and communicator,” Morgan said. “I’m excited about his continued service in this new role.”

TEXAS - As Texas approaches the one-year anniversary of the devastating July 2025 floods that impacted communities across Central Texas and the Hill C...

TEXAS — As Texas approaches the one-year anniversary of the devastating July 2025 floods that impacted communities across Central Texas and the Hill Country, Feeding Texas joins families and communities in remembering the lives lost and honoring all those affected by the tragedy.

The anniversary also serves as a reminder of the critical role food banks play during and after disasters. In the wake of last year’s floods, food banks mobilized alongside local, state, and community partners to provide food, water, and emergency assistance to impacted families. As Texas continues to face natural disasters and emergencies, Feeding Texas reminds Texans that their local food bank is a trusted resource, ready to support communities when they need it most.

“No matter the disaster, access to food should never be an additional burden for families already facing uncertainty,” Celia Cole, chief executive officer at Feeding Texas, said. “Food banks are a critical part of Texas’ emergency response. Through our statewide network serving every county in Texas, we have the infrastructure and expertise to move food quickly, support local response efforts and help communities recover long after the immediate crisis has passed.”

Through a coordinated public-private response, the Feeding Texas network works closely with the Texas Department of Emergency Management and other partners during disasters to support both immediate relief efforts and long-term recovery in affected communities.

In response to the Central Texas floods, the Central Texas Food Bank quickly mobilized to support impacted communities through ongoing emergency response efforts in Travis County and by hosting special emergency food distributions in Burnet, Llano, San Saba and Williamson counties, helping ensure families had access to food and other essential resources.

“Food banks are often among the first responders communities turn to for support during a disaster,” said Sari Vatske, president and chief executive officer of the Central Texas Food Bank. “In addition to ensuring food access, we also provide stability, a sense of normality, and comfort in times of crisis. Our role is to help ensure Central Texans have the resources necessary to meet their ongoing needs.”

Across the Hill Country, the San Antonio Food Bank utilized three food pantries in local counties as distribution centers for food and other essential supplies in the wake of the floods. The food bank also hosted a mobile food distribution in Kerrville and sent trucks to Kerr County and San Angelo carrying water, food, cleaning supplies, hygiene kits and other critical items.

Together, the Central Texas Food Bank and San Antonio Food Bank distributed more than 1.36 million pounds of food.

“The July 2025 floods reminded us that disasters can change lives in an instant,” said Eric Cooper, president and chief executive officer of the San Antonio Food Bank. “In those moments, we become a bridge to recovery, and no matter the disaster, whether it is a flood, pandemic or wildfire, communities know their local food bank will be there.”
