Icy road conditions are still creating hazards across Georgetown, prompting the City to delay opening most public facilities on Tuesday to allow conditions to improve. City crews continue working overnight to treat major roads, bridges, and overpasses as freezing temperatures persist.
Below is the official press release information provided by the City of Georgetown, shared verbatim for accuracy and clarity.
City facilities to open at 1 p.m. Tuesday due to icy road conditions
Most City offices will open to the public at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, to give roads an opportunity to thaw. See below for a full listing of delayed openings.
Georgetown residents should continue to limit travel, as roads remain hazardous due to icy conditions. The National Weather Service has issued an extreme cold warning with temperatures holding below freezing through Tuesday morning. While some of the ice on roads melted Monday, everything will refreeze Monday evening, when temperatures drop again, meaning roads could remain hazardous into Tuesday morning.
City crews continue to work around the clock treating Georgetown bridges, overpasses, and major, arterial, and collector roads.
