Georgetown Police Department Officer Delta Jolly has retired from police work and is starting a new chapter in education.
“Our Officer Delta Jolly has retired from GPD,” the Georgetown Police Department wrote on Facebook. “She’s not going far though! She’s going to GISD to teach our youth and guide those who are interested in our profession. We wish her well on her future endeavors and will miss her contagious smile so much! We love you, Delta! 🚓”
Jolly has been serving as a police officer for eight years and told Hello Georgetown it wasn’t easy deciding leave police work, but she’s also excited for this new chapter in her life.
“It was a bit of a hard decision since I’ve been having fun doing all the things that I do for the police department, especially for community engagement,” Officer Delta Jolly told Hello Georgetown. “But, it was just important that I put my family first and so I made the decision to leave the police department and move over to GISD.”
In her new capacity at Georgetown Independent School District, Jolly will be teaching a high school criminal justice course.
“Freshman and probably sophomore level classes,” Jolly told Hello Georgetown. “Basically, giving them a good foundation of where they’re going to go in the criminal justice program, and then I’ll be able to kind of mentor them through that program.”
Jolly will also be assisting with the Criminal Justice Club, which she said, is very similar to the Georgetown Police Department’s Explorer program that she previously advised.
While serving as an officer, Jolly also launched a children’s book series called Officer Jolly. The first installment of that series is Officer Jolly Earns Her Badge and details the true story of how Jolly went through the police academy to become a Georgetown Police officer.
She said she is still working on her second book release and continuing to do public readings and in-person events with her first book.
